I love the feeling of the mix of old and new that you get from Oxford, particularly at this time of year. It's exam time and all the finalists are walking along to exam schools in their gowns and sub-fusc as I bike along to work. Even at other times of year, you can occasionally them dressed up, or little schoolboys marching across the bridge in caps and capes, or monks in full attire wandering down the road, or even just people out on their way to a formal dinner waiting for a bus in their evening wear. It fits with the way the city is, with the ancient buildings full of students or with shop-fronts on their ground floors. The nice parts of the past, the beautiful or decorative parts have been retained both in the buildings and in the life of the city.
