So, we're now signed up to an online film rental account, as part of the re-educating me in film programme. What should we watch?

You seen Before Sunrise and Before Sunset? What about the Three Colours trilogy?
Casablanca. Its the classic that doesn't suck in any way and you can't just borrow it off me like anything else I would recommend.
Citizen Kane, Casablanca, The Godfather.
Alien, Aliens.

Good fun pop cultural classics (mostly)

Shall We Dance, Swing Time, The Princess Bride, Zulu, Holy Grail, Life of Brian, Time Bandits, Brazil, Spinal Tap, Mr Jolly Lives Next Door, High Society, The Philadelphia Story, 7 Samurai, Magnificent 7, Good/Bad/Ugly, Once Upon a Time In The West, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, The Italian Job, Plein Soleil, Nikita, Some Like It Hot, Psycho, Rear Window, Vertigo, Carry On Up the Khyber/Screaming/Cleo, The Blues Brothers, everything by Quentin Tarantino and the vampire thing with him in as well, anything written by Charlie Kaufman, Kind Hearts & Coronets, The Ladykillers, The Day The Earth Stood Still, Guys & Dolls, The Usual Suspects, Seven, Silence of the Lambs, Labyrinth, The Thing (Carpenter), Assault on Precinct 13, Taking of Pelham 123, Dog Day Afternoon, Gone With The Wind, Jezebel, All About Eve, His Girl Friday, Duck Soup, The Wizard of Oz.
I'm assuming you've seen most of these but I have no idea of your existing knowledge base, so that will give you a nudge to remember a few things you've never quite got round to. I could go on (and on) about 1930's, 40's and 50's musicals but won't.
sparkymark is completely right about Casablanca.
How are you on Kurosawa? How about John Ford?

Peter Greenaway, early work mostly - 'The Draughtsman's Contract', say.

Jet Li's Hong Kong work, say 1990-2000. The Fong Sai Yuk films in particular. Honestly, you will love the arse off them.

Will let you know if i think of more.
