Another one of those annoying the internet is costing business' money stories. It always bugs me that the assumption is that if you weren't doing Facebook or whatever you would automatically be working instead. I need my time outs sometimes.

No, clearly you should be piss drunk at your desk reading a newspaper like your forebearers - it's the sort of pre-Internet work ethic that rebuilt Japan and flung the Queen's claim across the ends of the Earth. ;-)
'...employees "wasting time" on social networking' - that's us going to the coffee machine isn't it? The only difference between social networking and social networking sites is that you stretch your legs when you go to the coffee machine.
Before the internet, no one ever wrote articles about the productivity loss of water coolers or... um... paper-clip flinging... (what did people do for time-outs at work back then?)
Talking to their collegues, I presume. One of the many reasons to hail the internet age as a golden age :D
Talking to their colleagues? That was a dark time indeed.
But of course it's always okay for people to take dozens of fag breaks and yak on the phone to their friends so it disrupts everyone else's work too. [/bitter]
