Was unreasonably pleased with myself last night for finally forcing Google to let me pay them for something I was going to download anyway - turns out that if I VPN and then use an incognito window, I can get to the US Google Play store and then if I pretend my card is registered in the US, I can buy my shows at their US release time and watch them on my chromecast. I really wish that they would get their acts together and sort out all this regioning bs for TV and film. Film is actually a lot better than it used to be, but TV is still a total pain. I suppose if they make this stuff available to me on the Play store, then the theory is that they'll be able to sell it for less to whichever UK channel they sell it to but in practice, I'm not watching on UK time - it's that or download it for free and at the moment, downloading it for free is a whole lot easier, which seems perverse.

Have been having a relatively nice time doing a little bit of shopping for some books for our Golden Age of Islam topic next year - it should be a pretty interesting one, especially as I haven't taught it before so I'll be getting to do a lot of learning as part of it!

Ugh, I feel your pain about the Google Play store and its stupid country restrictions. I didn't think it would be a big deal when I moved to Canada since I can still spoof a US IP when I'm at home and on my computer, but all of my mobile devices have helped me to understand just how much content is blocked outside of the US. Even books!
